My dear friends Macy Lethco and Carly Moore began Grind Culture as a curated gallery and play space dedicated to womxn’s skate and longboarding, and it has been my pleasure to roll with them as it evolved into a skate collective that meets monthly to help womxn start, practice, and celebrate skating. As both an antithesis and a reclaiming of a culture that can be intimidating and exclusionary towards womxn, Grind Culture’s visuals needed to reflect strength and softness, confidence and inclusion. Its creators specifically requested a tiger/dove hybrid, which you can see many variations on in my process sketches at the bottom of this page. Directly below is the finished product. Bold colors, a gritty text treatment, and lines that flow from form to form. If you’re a she/they who wants to start or keep skating, come skate with us!
