Cultural Manifesto - Rebrand

Cultural Manifesto is a beloved WFYI radio show and podcast that celebrates and unearths music from Indiana’s multicultural past and present. Hosted local DJ Kyle Long, the show explores the merging of a wide spectrum of global music as well as deep cuts from Long’s extensive work preserving historic Indiana artists’ recordings. Our team approached Long to ask to rebrand the show to pull it closer to WFYI’s parent brand, and give it a fresh look more reflective of its tone. The rebrand launches in April 2022, but you can see a sneak preview here, and more details on my process and sketching below.

Process & Sketches

In building this brand, I spent a lot of time in the library, researching Russian Constructivism, Cuban propaganda, Bollywood advertisements and DIY/punk posters. It’s all in the name, Cultural Manifesto: I wanted the logo to feel multicultural, subversive, but optimistic. It needed to have strength and energy: the idea of forcibly bringing to light the artists and art that have been buried by dominant cultures. The logo also needed to fit within WFYI’s parent brand and family of podcasts, while having its own distinct flavor of global, resistant art.
