Sick Podcast - Season 2
Sick is an investigative podcast with a public health lens created by WFYI journalists. At the bottom of the page, you can read about season 1, which was named one of the “50 Best Podcasts of 2019” by the Atlantic, and which I built the brand for. Season 2 was released in the fall of 2021 and centered stories of health injustice within Indiana’s incarceration system. As I had intended in building season 1’s brand, I switched the body part within the logo and kept typography consistent: centering instead the visual of ribs: referencing the contained, restrictive nature of incarceration. Below are some of the many designs I created for podcast art, social media promotions, physical product promotions, and you can visit the website I built for the show here.
Podcast & Social Media Art
Promotional Items & Influencer Kits
I came up with the idea of sending promotional kits to build excitement for season 2 and designed and assembled all the included materials, including a custom-made candle, stickers, enamel pins, buttons, t-shirts, and information on the show. These were sent to media partners, local influencers, as well as contributors to the show as a thank-you. The kits resulted in appearances on other radio shows, television segments, blog posts, social media chatter, and many excited fans.
Season 1
Season 1 of Sick centered on the complications of fertility medicine and one Indiana doctor’s abuse of power. Because of this dark tone and medical focus, the production team and I were inspired by the designs of the traveling-doctor, snake-oil era of medicine. Utilizing vintage anatomy diagrams, textures of fading and decay, and a pallid color scheme, I crafted a brand identity for the podcast that established it within the WFYI brand but quickly conveyed the uneasy tone of the serious subject matter. Season 1’s logo was built around a human pelvis, with the idea being that in future seasons we would switch the body part and keep the typiography. Beside the logo, I designed all social media graphics and built the Squarespace website for the show, as well as various promotional products and apparel.
